Small spaces are always a challenge when it comes to furnishing. Space is scarce, but the desire to make a one-room apartment or room in a shared apartment more attractive is all the greater. After all, you shouldn’t have to do without great interior pieces just because space is limited. Here we show you how to get the most out of a mini living space.

Tips For Everyone Who Lives In A Small Space

Flexible Furniture

In small rooms, the furniture should be one thing above all – practical! It is therefore worth investing in flexible, easily relocatable or collapsible furniture, such as stackable stools or furniture with castors.

Choosing The Right Size

Sure, the space is extremely limited in a small space. A mistake that many people make is to buy all furniture as small as possible. This is nonsense, however, because it unintentionally creates a “dollhouse effect”. Better: pay attention to proportions and skillfully mix small pieces of furniture with larger key pieces.

Filigree Pieces

Robust and heavy tables, cupboards and beds made of dark solid wood quickly appear bulky and make mini-rooms look even smaller. It is better to invest in filigree, narrow and minimalist furniture.

Bright colors

Basically, light tones are always a good idea as they visually enlarge any room. While pure white can make the living room look a bit sterile and hospital-like, other light tones such as off-white, eggshell white or cream are ideal as a basis. They can be combined with cozy earth tones such as taupe or greige, as well as with stronger accent colors such as petrol green or midnight blue.

Paint Walls Correctly

If you just want to paint one wall in color, a simple trick will instantly make small rooms look more spacious. In fact: Leave a white border on the entire wall, i.e. on all edges (simply mask off with painter’s tape before painting). This frame not only makes the wall color stand out, the whole room also appears larger.

Rely On Transparency

Transparent materials are ideal for mini-living spaces, as they reflect the light and give every room a little lightness. How about, for example, a plexiglass chair or table with a glass top in the living room?

Get Organized

With the help of storage boxes, shelves, boxes with compartments, etc., you can create storage space – and tidying up is then done in no time.

Less Is More

If you live in a small space, it is best to concentrate on the essentials and only put your favorite decorative objects in the limelight.

Mirror Mirror On The Wall

Who has the (at least visually) largest apartment in the whole country? A large mirror can optically double a room, making it a must-have for small rooms or spaces. Plus point: The home accessory also functions as a decorative item!

Indirect Lighting

As in any other room, indirect lighting is ideal for small rooms. When setting up, don’t just think of classic ceiling lamps, but also floor, table, and wall lamps.
